The Saem Cover Perfection Triple Pot concealor

I can’t help picking this up, and trying to up my game on concealing and color correcting.

Link to the same video on Tiktok: https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSFTmemQv/

My thoughts: I’m still lazy with concealing and color correcting. With my fingers I pick up too much product. With a brush I can blend it much much better. Definitely still need to improve my skills at this.

Single’s Inferno Ha Jeong and Wakemake Ignites Romance

I finished watching Season 3 of Single’s Inferno not too long ago and as of now I’m still obsessed with their content. I think Gwanhee must have taught all of them to create their own Youtube channel. I saw Ha Jeong’s face on my Youtube’s suggested feed and she looked so pretty here that I had to click in.

She is now the face of Wakemake!

I know I’m late to the launch of this Black Hush Collection of Wakemake. I was never into Wakemake, well, this got me really, with the pretty black and pink shades.

Ever since discovering my seasonal color palette, I decided to look into softer makeup looks (not that I do heavy makeup now though). Things like not-so-black eyeliner.

WAKEMAKE Real Ash Brush Eyeliner

This is a watered-down black eyeliner. Descriptions of the browns contain words like “muted”, “soft” which I think might work well for me.

This got me looking into the Black Hush Collection.

5 to 5 skincare Gentle Cleanser review

Bought this because I saw it going around in IG and also #supportlocal. Bought it from their shopee store!

Shopee link

Gentle Cleanser

It is in a gel form and it comes with a pump dispenser which is pretty normal. And to get to the last bit I just opened the pump up and mix in a little water and pour it out. I don’t think i wasted any!

I like the gel formula. It doesn’t foam very well but it’s ok, cos it doesn’t have the ultra drying SLS but it uses a more gentle surfactant. I’ve been using it as a morning cleanser. When I was using an oil at night which was particularly oily it was a bit hard to clean off in the morning but after I finished the sample of that oil I realized the cleansing power is actually fine and can clean off the heavy creams and another oil.

The texture and colour
Here’s how much foam it creates. Not a lot.

One thing though is it doesn’t contain fragrance and I do enjoy some sort of fragrance or it really has to smell like nothing to me but it has a kind of smell which kinda reminded me of psyllium husks which imo is not really very pleasant. It’s not exactly like such a huge turn-off until I can’t use it but it’s a thing which made me not look forward to it.

Overall it is indeed a very gentle cleanser and is non-drying and it did serve its purpose as a gentle morning cleanser.

Full ingredients list from their website:

#picksformylips Eglips Muse In Lipstick

I have wayyyy too many lipsticks!

Just randomly took out a lipstick and this was something I won from a giveaway.

Eglips M006 Summer

The texture of this is dry and it’s hard to glide on the lipstick smoothly. I think it might work better if I had lipbalm on. The color is very intense and bright though! It’s not truly long lasting but some of it is still left on my lips after eating ice cream.

It’s a really cheery, orangey and summer kind of color!

Packaging is slim and sleek and matte with a metallic tip.

Small Pukong review

Preamble

Yes this blog is being resurrected and I hope to be consistent here. 😀

More ramblings

I actually hate to maintain my hair in any way and I think you can see that I pay more attention to my skin than my hair if you have been following me on IG. Recently I do realise though that I need to pay more attention to my hair if I wanna be a all-round pretty person or all-round vain person. I’ll be trying different hair products to see which ones suit me!

Hair/scalp problems

My scalp does get itchy some time in the afternoon. I wash my hair at night usually! I figured it’s itchy because my scalp is oily. My hair is extremely dry and looks like grass since I have not been taking care of it. I have coloured my hair for years and I do not do hair treatments. I just use conditioner and hair oil sometimes. I don’t trim my hair regularly either. Alright! I think that’s something I should work on.

In addition my hair has been thinning since 30s probably due to slower metabolism and hair growth. I feel like it is half of what I had in my youth.

Review

This review will be on the shampoos and the body washes.

Ginger root shampoo

The main ingredients for this would be ginger root and dandelion, several plant extracts and amino acids. Both are said to be good for hair growth Amino acids help to hydrate hair. The texture is something like a paste. It does smell good though! They have a “nose” to design fragrances for their whole line of products.

This does help me with the oily scalp and it doesn’t feel itchy any more in the afternoon! I use this to prevent hair loss too! Hair loss is not really my high concern now though.

Revitalising Shampoo

I like the fragrance of this too! It does help to make my hair smoother but it doesn’t really help with my oily and itchy scalp. So sometimes I will shampoo my hair twice and use both. This has plant extracts, dandelion essence, Vitamin E and Vitamin C! I feel like my hair is smoother after use but of course I still need conditioner/treatment after this for my dry hair.

Daily treatment Mask

This contains more than 7 plant extracts and has macadamia nut oil, olive oil, camellia oil, shea butter, avocado oil, palm oil, almond oil and other plant extracts as well as amino acids to moisturize the hair. This conditioner does work very well too and I love the smell for this!

Nicotinamide Brightening Body Wash

This is supposed to be rose scented but I don’t feel like there is any rose smell. I have to shake this before use each time as it is biphased – pretty but quite annoying actually and it doesn’t come with a pump. Smell wise is alright and it’s not drying but it’s really too watery.

Dreamy Shower Gel

This is a gel form and comes with a pump and is supposed to smell like lavender and ylang ylang but I don’t feel like the lavender is smell is strong and seems citrusy instead. I really don’t know how to describe smells very well. Texture wise it’s pleasant and not drying so I don’t mind repurchasing this.

Review: J.ONE Moisturizing Beauty Water

J.ONE Moisturizing Beauty Water

I reviewed this on my IG earlier, thought I will write a full review! My IG review

What it is: J.ONE Moisturizing Beauty Water – Rehydrating and comforting toner for all skin type.

Packaging: Round, sleek, solid and matte. Cover is screw-on type and even has the J.One logo on it.

Smell: I super love the smell! To me it smells pretty comforting. It is also not too overwhelming and over-powering.

Texture: Slightly viscous, maybe just a tad tacky after application.

Ingredients: Water, glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol Denat, Pentylene Glycol, PEG-75, Linum Usitatissimum Seed Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Octyldodeceth-16, Arginine, Carbomer, Fragrance,  Sodium Hyaluronate, Glyceryl acrylate/acrylic acid copolymer, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Dipropylene glycol, Sodium Palmitoyl Proline, Nymphaea Alba Flower Extract, PVP, Sorbitan laurate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Acetyl Dipeptide-1 Cetyl ester, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, Fullerenes

Source: J.ONE Moisturizing Beauty Water CosDNA ingredients list

Below are some benefits I googled for some of the ingredients.

Portulaca Oleracea Extract – may have skin soothing effects, anti-oxidant

Nymphaea Alba Flower Extract (water lily) – may sooth irritated skin, reduce redness, skin firming, reduce wrinkles.

Arginine – amino acid, anti-oxidant, skin regeneration.

Sodium Palmitoyl Proline – a modified amino acid, reduce wrinkles, skin firming

Acetyl Dipeptide-1 Cetyl ester – signal agents that trigger happiness and feelings of wellness.

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 – boost collagen production

Fullerenes – antioxidant. refer to this link for more info: https://labmuffin.com/fullerenes-in-skincare-juva-review

Writing this review makes me wanna use this product again. HAHA.

Using experience: I kind of neglected this for a very very long time because of new products and also because I don’t really know what to and how to incorporate a hydrating toner into my routine. This is really good as a moisturizer though! I had a brilliant idea to use it on my arms. The sunblock I was using caused my arm to dry out and itch and this beauty water just solved all of these. I patted it in and did not use cotton pads. I kind of “wasted” this on my arms cos I bought like 3 in total and they were expiring, as of now one is expired and I’m still using it on my arms.

Will I repurchase: I love J.One as a brand somehow as it was one of the first k-beauty brands I encountered. I will definitely repurchase if I have space for a hydrating toner!

Where I got it: Qoo10.

Review: Illiyoon Mugwort Calming Sheet Mask

I’m not really sure if it’s worth writing a review for each and every sheet mask I used. Let’s see anyway? Today the review is on this mask!

Why I chose this mask: Basically my skin do get quite red easily so I thought I should get something calming. I got it off my favourite Qoo10 on the Official Amore Pacific Store. I bought a bunch of bb cushions as well. The mask came in a pack of 10, so I have finished all 10 of them as of 7 November 2018. The packing is really pretty! I mean, for this series.

Ingredients: Someone has uploaded it here on CosDNA.  I did not look at the ingredients list before this. Well, because it is a sheet mask and I was in a I-wanna-try-a-pretty-looking-mask mode. Only now then I realise mugwort is actually Artemisia! There are a few different species/names. Wikipedia has the best summary I feel.

Mugwort does indeed look good, in the sense that it can do something for my skin and I’ve seen quite a few pure Artemisia products on instagram so I’m sure it does help the skin somehow.

Texture and feel and smell: Not sure what the mask is made out of, but it’s really thick. It doesn’t cling well to the face. The mask is also not quite juicy enough. I usually use this when I only have like maybe 15 or 20 mins or so for my mask. The essence is kind of goopy and sticky. It’s clear and non-coloured. There is a kind of a smell, I think maybe now it could be the smell of mugwort, but I’m not really sure. The scent is not strong.  Other notable ingredients are glycerin, ginseng, beta-glucan (maybe that’s why it’s sticky?) The foil pack feels thick and solid too and doesn’t feel cheap upon touch.

Whether it does anything for my face: I don’t think it really does anything, really.

Repurchase: No.

P.S. Just today (09 Nov 2018) Layna suggested that I tag my posts as such: e.g. #belindajonellexilliyoon. So I will try to go back and edit my IG posts and try to tag as many as possible. Sometimes I do talk about how I feel when I did the mask.

Review: Sephora soothing cleansing milk

2018-09-17 21.14.23

I finally finished this bottle of Sephora cleansing milk after about 4 months? Here is the evidence:

2018-09-17 21.14.42

I like writing the date I open a product on the bottle.

I have tried this cleansing milk out in Sephora stores which I thought was ok and I bought it. I previously bought the Sephora Micellar water which I was ok with as well but I decided to stop using Micellar water and turn to cleansing milks and oils.

Anyway, this was before I got into studying ingredients list. Well, imagine my shock when I saw that many of the ingredients are not really safe. Let’s go straight into it.

2018-09-17 21.14.31

Ingredients List:  Aqua, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Propanediol, Dicapryl Carbonate, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Wheat Straw Glycosides, Sodium Polyacrylate, Xanthan Gum, Tocopheryl Acetate, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Sodium Phytate, Limonene, Linalool, Cassia Angustifolia Seed Polysaccharide, Tocopherol, Benzyl Salicylate, Alcohol, Hydroxyethylcellulose. I typed out everything 😦

Note: Acne/irritants are in bold. Safety scale in yellow on CosDNA are underlined. Safety scale in red on CosDNA is in bold and underlined

Ingredients analysis on CosDNA

Surprisingly Alcohol is not listed as an irritant? I am not really bothered by alcohol though I thought I probably should avoid it since I consider my skin sensitive.

I did a search on macadamia nut oil‘s profile and Wikipedia says that it is 60% oleic acid, 19% palmitoleic acid and 1-3% linoleic acid which probably makes it not so good for my acne-prone skin (I googled once again that I should go for oils with more linoleic acids which are the thinner oils) (my bad, I can’t get it in my brain though I watched both Liah Yoo’s oil video and Gothamista’s oil video).

Honestly, limonene and linalool scared me when I googled on them since they might cause sensitivity. Cassia Angustifolia Seed PolySaccharide is probably the only soothing thing I see in the ingredients list.

Price: SGD24 for 400ml (very cheap imo) from Sephora

Texture and feel: Creamy, and I can spread it out over my face easily. I also used it on my arms to remove sunscreen. I do rub it very vigorously over my arms and sometimes it ended up on my floor and furniture. I don’t like to use it with a cotton pad as it just doesn’t get absorbed into the cotton pad easily so I figured the easier way is just to use my hands.

It does a decent job of removing makeup on my face. I don’t use it on my eyes though, since I don’t really want it to get into my eyes. When I kept it on after wiping off with tissue paper, my skin doesn’t feel dry. It emulsifies quite easily and rinsed off easily BUT it leaves a tacky film behind, which I don’t really like.

Conclusion: I don’t think it has irritated my skin in any way. As for cleansing power, I am also pretty satisfied. I am worried about the ingredients though and I don’t really think I should give it any more time in case they irritate my skin. My preference now is to try more cleansing oils. Last but not least, the film it leaves behind is the most annoying thing about this cleanser, which was bearable considering that I almost always wash it off immediately with my second cleanser anyway.

Will I repurchase?: No.

My virgin eyelash extension experience

I must say my first eyelash extension experience is quite disappointing, but an experience, nonetheless. I’ve been mulling over it for months and months and maybe even years.

I finally had the chance to ask someone properly who has been doing eyelashes for quite a while. They should last about a month. She doesn’t put on any eye make up though and doesn’t seem like she put on make up in general as well. She spends about $70 each time, depending on whether she is doing a touch-up or a full set of lashes, so that makes it like $280 each month.

Putting on eye make up can affect the longevity of the eyelash extensions as they may contain substances which break down the glue and generally if you need to remove the eye make up you may also by rubbing the remover on the lashes.

Well, so to my horror, my lashes only lasted me less than a week. My appointment was delayed as I was the last customer and I booked it on the day itself using Vanity as there was a very good promotion and I decided to book it on a whim, on 21 July 2018.

Basically I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do, when she showed me the photos of the different types of lashes they all looked the same to me. I ended up doing a more natural look with a 10mm C-curl lash. I would like to do something more dramatic next time!

I think I fell asleep during the procedure. It was initially a bit uncomfortable as she had to stick my lower lashes and my eyelid. When she applied the first few lashes she kind of poked my eyelids and they felt ticklish. I had to sign an indemnity form. They did sort of explain the risks of the eyelash extension – risk of infection, risk of sitting on the chair for too long blah blah (can’t remember the rest). I did sit in the chair not daring to move for 1.5 hours, so I guess it is a real risk! If I had more lashes I might have to sit longer!

2018-07-21 22.49.02

C curl 10mm

I loved my extensions. I got a free spoolie and a sponge to wash my face – no water contact with the lashes for 6 hours at least. When I squinted and when I squeezed my eyes together though, the eyelash extensions started to pop out. I later realised it could be that she didn’t put enough gap between my eyelid and the extension. Anyway most of the eyelashes dropped out within the week. I made an appointment to touch up my lashes the following friday on 27 July 2018.

As it turns out the shop was not opened when I got there, I waited from 12 to 1230 pm (during lunch time), thinking they might have gotten the timing wrong. However there was still nobody. I texted the boss? attending to the Whatsapp number and she was really kind enough to give me a free full set of lashes. I requested to go to their other branch, cos I really really wanted it to be done that day instead of coming back another day and hence wasting my lunch time that day.

I did a mix of 11mm and 12 mm C-curl. This lasted longer, but still didn’t last for 1 month.

2018-07-28 18.46.02

New set of lashes, mix of 11 mm and 12 mm

I tried to maintain, I did try. But at the end of 3 weeks when more than half the lashes dropped out I tried to get the lashes to drop faster. I found the best method was to use an eyelash curler. Haha! There were like 2 strands of the extensions left and using mascara and using cleansing oil seriously did not get rid of the last 2 eyelash extensions fast enough.

Lashes on 9 August 2018 ( about 2 weeks)

I don’t think I will go back to that salon any time soon. I’m really thankful for the full set of lashes and the experience though.

How to choose a non-irritable and effective sunscreen

This is a summary of the 2 videos I watched on how to choose a sunscreen. Sunscreen should be non-irritable – doesn’t cause acne – and effectively block the sun.

First video: How to Choose.

  • Choose physical sunscreen or suncreen with mostly physical sunscreen.

Chemical sunscreens tend to clog pores and irritate skin.

  • Choose ingredients.

Physical sunscreen ingredients are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

The 2 safe chemical ingredients are Tinosorb M and Tinosorb S.

Avoid avobenzone, benzophenone-3 and oxybenzone.

Second video: How to Test.

To test whether it stays

Smear a patch on the mirror. Spray some water on the patch half an hour later. The water that drips down should be as clear as possible. 4 hours later, spray the patch again with water mixed with some dish-washing detergent. The water that drips down should be as clear as possible.

To test whether it is penetrable

Apply the sunscreen on arm. Run tap water on it half an hour later. The water droplets should look “round”. For the next 8 hours, test again  and run under tap water for every 2 hours to make sure the water droplets are still “round”.

Below are the 2 videos from which I took the information from (in Chinese!).
